The first building complex of the Mikkeli County Hospital was completed in 1843 to the designs of the treasurer’s office led by Carl Ludvig Engel. A six-storey hospital building designed by architect Jussi Paatela was completed in 1934. During the Winter and Continuation Wars it housed a war hospital. In 1965 the Mikkeli County Hospital was turned into an inter-municipal central hospital. The latest extension to the hospital is from the 1980s.
