In the Marshal’s Bootprints – a walking tour

The first barracks were built in 1879-82 for the Mikkeli Sniper Battalion. Twenty new buildings were added to the complex in 1901. During the Winter and Continuation Wars the barracks accommodated non-commissioned officers and ranks. 

During the Continuation War the barracks housed the meteorology, air raid protection and military administration departments. They also served as accommodation for the personnel of the German liaison staff. Since 1982 the barracks have housed the Infantry Museum.
