Suur Savo Museum Collections and Exhibitions

The foundation of the museum's collection of objects is the collection amassed in the 1920s and 30s by the Suur-Savo Museum Association. Objects relating to the history of Mikkeli have been actively collected and the museum's collections contain about 8,000 catalogued items. Of the photographs that have accumulated in the museum's collections there are about 10,000 prints and about 24,000 negatives. This pictorial material is used to illustrate studies etc. Private persons are also provided with copies from the museum's photographic archives.

Until 31.12.2017, Mikkeli Parish Church 200 years

The church of Mikkeli Rural Parish – or Mikkeli Parish since 2013 – is one of the largest wooden churches in Finland. This exhibition presents the history of the construction of the church, as well as some ecclesiastical objects. The double cruciform church was inaugurated in 1817 in accordance with the designs by master builder Matti Salonen and approved by the Board of Public Construction. The church’s jubilee year continues 2017. The exhibition will be renewed during the current year.
