Suur-Savo Museum

Suur-Savo Museum is the cultural history museum of the City of Mikkeli. It preserves and exhibits the history of Mikkeli and its region. The museum building is the Mikkeli parish granary from 1848 which has been a museum since 1960.

The museum’s permanent exhibition explores the history of Mikkeli. The museum’s collections of tin, porcelain and textile objects are on the first floor, including the ancient costume from the Mikkeli region. The second floor contains items that tell the story of the city’s history. The ground floor features a temporary theme exhibition that changes annually.

The museum’s shop stocks literature, postcards and gifts. The shop is open to customers during the opening hours of the museum.

The museum is closed for holidays:
1 Jan, 6 Jan, 3–6 Apr, 1 May, 14 May, 19–21 Jun, 6 Dec and 24–26 Dec 2026.

On the eves of holidays, the exhibitions will close at 4 p.m.

The Mikkeli City Museums reserve the right to changes.
